Definition
Someone in the area who, directly or indirectly, can contribute to the recruiting effort. It can provide referrals, lists, obtain access to schools, or influence local leaders. Examples are: Reservists, School Officials, Businessmen, Civic leaders and government officials, former and retired Marines.

2) Contact owners of local businesses

Definition
1) Plan an initial visit.
2) Fill out and update a Contact Card.
3) Talk about recruiting and recruiting standards.
4) Inform of the specific support needed.
5) Ask the contact directly if they can help.
6) Provide business cards.
7) Ask the best time and place to follow-up.
Term
How does one work a contact card?
Definition
Contact Card is an action card that identifies the contact, indicates the contact’s value to the recruiting effort, and serves as a record of assistance.
How to work:
1) Complete the card heading on the front.
2) Enter specific value that the contact has for recruiting.
3) Use action dates to schedule the person for contact. Return the card to the NCOIC to file in the working file under the appropriate date.
4) Schedule contacts in conjunction with other activities.
5) Record the results of each visit on the front and back.
6) Periodically analyze the results to determine if the contact is worthwhile or frequency of contacts needs to be adjusted.
7) Work for one year. If results are insufficient, consider deleting this contact next year.
8) At the end of the FY, if still useful, make a new card. File old one in the Misc. section of the working file.
