Culture of NE North America from 800 B.C to A.D 600. Remains found have shown a developed social structure and evidence of division of labor. Earthworks and burial mounds(some shaped like snakes, birds, and other animals) have been discovered. Hopewellians established a trade network that spanned the continent.

plants and animals of Europe and the New WOrld were distinct biological systems. Diffusion of the two systems ( animal and plant) was rapid. Natiave Americans knew nothing of horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats. Resulted in revolution in diets of both hemispheres.
