Catch the Dragon's Tail
Definition
• Catch the Dragon's Tail is a Chinese game for at least ten children. Children line up single file and place their hands on the shoulders of the player in front of them. When the game starts, the first player in line (the dragon's head) tries to catch the last player in line (the dragon's tail). Players try to keep the line intact during the chase. When the first player tags the tail, the tail player moves to the front of the line and becomes the head. The game starts again.
Term
Chopstick
Definition
The Chopstick Game is often played at Chinese New Year celebrations. Two teams of children each line up behind a chair. There is a bowl of marbles on each of these chairs. An empty bowl is set up on another chair, six to eight feet away from the start. Each player is given a set of chopsticks. The relay starts with the first player on each team picking up a marble with his chopsticks and carrying it over to the second bowl. If he drops the marble, he must put it back in the first bowl. Players take turns carrying marbles with their chopsticks. The first team to successfully transfer all of their marbles to the second bowl wins. For younger children, use marshmallows or popcorn, as they are easier to pick up with chopsticks.
Term
Piaji
Definition
The game needs two kids to play. Each kid should have at least ten piajies. Just toss a coin to decide who plays first. Let us say kid A wins the toss. Kid B has to place a piaji on the ground at start (a little rough surface will make the game easier). Kid A will use a piaji to hit the piaji on the ground and try to make it turn over. If the piaji turns over, kid A wins the piaji of kid B, and kid B has to place another piaji on the ground and kid A will hit it again. If the piaji keeps the same side on the ground, it will be kid B turn. The piaji of kid A will keep the position after hitting and kid B will pick up the piaji on the ground and use it to hit the piaji of kid A. This game can go on like this as long as both kids have piajies in hand.
Term
Fingers Out
Definition
The children face each other and count to 3. On "3" they put out one hand - either as a fist or with 1, 2 or 3 fingers extended, shouting out at the same time a number between 1 and 6.Add up the number of fingers extended. If a child guessed the exact number of fingers shown they score 2 points. If they guessed nearest the number of fingers shown, they score 1 point. If there is a tie, no points are scored. The first to a given number or points - perhaps 5 or 10 - wins.
Term
Catching Seven Pieces
Definition
Take turns to play. Each player holds all seven pieces in one hand. Drop them onto the surface, trying to spread them out so that the pieces aren't touching .Pick one of the pieces up and toss it in the air, grabbing another piece from the surface with the same hand before catching the original piece before it falls back to the surface. Still holding two pieces, throw one up in the air, grab another from the table, and catch the air-bound piece again. If at any time one of the pieces falls out of your hand, the air-bound piece falls back onto the surface, or any of the pieces not being grabbed are touched or moved, play passes to the next player. When you get good at this level, try picking up 2 pieces at once, then 3 pieces, and so on - until you are throwing one piece up into the air and scooping all remaining 6 pieces into your hand before catching that first piece again.

Jan Dow, Boo,and Schurr Tow

Rock, Paper, and Scissors
Definition
2 kids face each other and decide whether to hold out their palm as Jan Dow (scissor), Boo (paper), or Schurr Doe (rock). At the count of three, both players hold out their palm as Jan Dow, Boo, or Schurr Doe.
• Jan dow - scissors. Pointer and middle fingers out in a V, rest of fingers folded in.
• Boo - paper. Palm out, all fingers open outward.
• Schurr Doe - rock. All fingers tucked in, clenched to a fist.

Player with jan dow wins over boo. Scissors can cut paper or fabric.
Player with boo wins over schurr toe. Paper or fabric can wrap around rock.
Player with schurr Doe wins over jan dow. Scissors cannot cut rock.

Player with same call is a draw. Nobody scores, so repeat.

Player who scores 2 out of 3; or 3 out of 3 wins.

If there are plenty of children, eliminate losing players and pit winners until 1 child is left and wins.
Term
Tangram
Definition
The instructions for playing tangrams are simple and very easy to understand. The objective of the puzzle is to form a figure using the tangram pieces. People find this seven-piece tangram puzzle fascinating and delightful because there are a large variety of ways of putting these pieces together. Using one's own creativity, various tangram figures may be formed. In fact, thousands and thousands of designs have been created over the years by just rearranging these seven tangram pieces.
Term
Fangbao
Definition
Each kid places one fangbao on the starting line. They will hit each other's fangbao towards the ending line using their fangbaoes. They play in turn, i.e., a kid plays once each time. The fangbao will hold where it is after it is hit and will start from there on the next play. If the fangbao passes the ending line or fall down the step as a result of your play, you will keep that fangbao. The kid who lost the fangbao will place a new fangbao on the starting line. At the end, the kid with the most fangbaoes wins the game.
Term
Look For Gold
Definition
Gather together a handful of pebbles. Throw them up into the air and let them land.

One child starts by drawing her finger between any two pebbles (to mark the two pebbles she is going to use). The then "snaps" one of the pebbles with her fingers towards the other one. If she hits it, she takes both pebbles and puts them aside, then has another go. If she misses, play passes to the next player.

Obviously the first player has the advantage of being able to choose the closest, or otherwise easiest, pair of pebbles. Each time you start the game again, the first play should pass to a new player.
