Definition

 A way of dividing design and production, a way to spread information to different designers and easily produced design.

 

The designs could be applied to different objects as well making them not specific to one object.

 

Pattern Book of Balthasar Sylvius, Flanders, 1550s - A publication that can be referenced by different designers, designs in book were not intended for one object specifically.

Sheffield plate

Definition

is a layered combination of silver and copper that was used for many years to produce a wide range of household articles.


These included buttons, serving utensils, candlesticks and other lighting devices, coffee and tea sets, serving dishes and trays.


Almost every article made in sterling silver was also crafted by Sheffield makers, who used this manufacturing process to produce nearly identical wares at far less cost.

The IG consisted of painters, sculptors, architects, writers and critics who wanted to challenge prevailing modernist approaches to culture.
