lights models in studio w harsh light, takes high POV.  starts with measurable modules (the hand, etc.) wich ends up trunkating his bodies.  manipulation of the veiwer, the eye level line takes the viwer away from the subject, less intimate. he turns the models into compositional (still life, impersonal) elements. a frustration of our desire to engage w object of visual pleasure. Ultimately pearlstein is not a die hard realist, but is interested in the body as a compositional element (attractive females in unattractive poses).
