Definition

 

A.    The study of human behavior is an attempt to explain how and why human functions the way they do

i.        Combo of innate human nature and individual experience & environment

B.     A working knowledge of behavior can help an instructor better understand a student

i.        Product of factors that cause people to act in predictable ways

a.       Ex: how people handle fear is a product of individual experiences

i.        Human behavior is the result of attempts to satisfy certain needs

a.       Simple needs may drive: food, water

b.      Complex needs: respect and acceptance

i.        As human grow, behavior changes

a.       As an individual matures, their mode of actions moves from dependency to self-direction

b.      Therefore the age of a student impacts how the curriculum is designed

i.        Instructor must understand his/her style of teaching and as much as possible adapt to students

a.       Adjust scenarios to fit student’s learning

H.    Control of Human Behavior

i.        Students tend to submit to authority as a valid means of control

a.       The instructor’s challenge is to know what controls are best for existing circumstances

b.      Create an atmosphere that enables/encourages students to help themselves toward their goals

ii.      It is the instructor’s responsibility to discover how to realize the potential in each student

Definition
Humans have a need for a stable, firmly based, high level of self-respect, and respect from others. When a persons self esteem needs are satisfied, a person feels self-confident and valuable as a person in the world.

If a person understands what is going on, he can either control the situation or make informed choices about what steps might me taken next.Aesthetic is when you like something and you don't know why.

Definition
People have an inherent dislike for work and will avoid it whenever possible. People must be coerced, controlled, directed, or threatened with punishment in order to get then to achieve the organizational objectives. People prefer to be directed, do not want responsibility, and have little or no ambition. People seek security above all else.

Definition
Work is as natural as play and rest. People will exercise self-direction if they are committed to the objectives (they are not lazy) commitment to objectives is a function of the rewards associated with their achievement. Creativity, ingenuity, and imagination are widely distributed among the population. people are capable of using these abilities to solve an organizational problem. People have potential.

Individuals sincerely believe in the plausible and acceptable excuses which seem real and justifiable. Failing a test, blaming it on not having enough time to learn the material and not accepting failure by not joining class study group.
