Term
where do epithelial cells that line the intestines and are on the surface come from?
Definition
In Mesenchyme tissue derived from embryonic mesoderm.
Term
What are the structures of the Epithelium tissue?
Definition
simple stratified= layered, squamous = flat, cubodial= cube like, columnar= long column like.
Term
What is between the epithelial tissue?
Definition
Term
what is the structure and function of adipose tissue?
Definition
fat tissue. Look like rings because the nucleus in on the outer rim. Function is provide and reserve food fuel; insulates against heat loss; supports and protects organs.
Term
Give description of Epithila
Definition
Primary tissue that covers the body's surface, lines it's internal cavities and forms glands.
Term
Information about Cartilage
Definition
Cartilage stands up to both tension and compression has qualities intermediate between dense connective tissue and bone. Cartilage lacks nerve fibers and is avascular. It's up to 80% water and receives nutrients by diffusion from blood vessels located in the connective tissue membrane.
Term
What constitutes tissues?
Definition
groups of cells that are similar in structure and perform a common or related function.
Term
Simple Squamous Epithelium: function? structure? and location?
Definition
single layered flattened cells.
function: allows passage of materials by diffusion and filteration, in sites where protection is not important.
Location: Kidney glomeruli; air sacs of lung; lining of heart; blood vessels and lymphatic vessels.
Term
Simple Cubodial Epithelium: Function? Structure? Location?
Definition
Structure: single layer cube like.
Function: secretion and absorption.
Location:Kidney tublues; ducts and secretory of small glands; ovary surface.
Term
Simple Columnar Epithelium: Structure? Function? Location?
Definition
Single layer of tall cell with round to oval nuclei.
Function: Absorption; secretion of mucus enzymes and other substances; ciliated type propels mucus by ciliary action.
Location: digestive tract to anal canal; gall bladder; and excretory dut of some glands; ciliated variety lines the small bronchi; uterine tubes and some regions of the uterus.
Term
Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium: structure? function? location?
Definition
Single layer of differing heights some not reaching the free surfaces.
Function: Secretion of mucus; porpulsion of mucus by ciliary action.
Location: male sperm carrying ducts and ducts of large glands; ciliated variety lines the trachea; most of the upper respiratory tract.
Term
stratified squamous epithelium: Structure? Function? Location?
Definition
Several layers, basal cells are cubodial or columnar, surfaces are squamous (Surface cells are full of keratin and are dead).
Function: protects underlying tissues.
Location: moist linings of the esophagus, mouth and vagina, epidermis and dry membrane.
Term
Transitional Epithelium: Structure? Function? Location?
Definition
Resembles both stratified squamous and stratified cubodial(basal cells cubodial or columnar like, surface squamouslike).
Function: stretches and permits distension of urinary organ by contained urine.
Location: Line uterus, urinary bladder and part of the urethra.
Term
Hyaline Cartilage: structure? function? location?
Definition
Amorphous and glassy but firm matrix.
Function: Supports and reinforces; has cushioning properties; resists compressive stress.
Location: forms most of the embryonic skeleton, covers the ends of most bones in joint cavities, forms costal cartilages of the ribs; cartilages of the nose; trachea, and larynx.
Term
Elastic Cartilage: Structure? Function? Location?
Definition
Similar to Hyaline cartilage but more elastic fibers in the matrix.
Function: Maintains the shape of a structure while allowing great flexibility.
Location: External ear; epiglottis.
Term
Fibrocartilage: Structure? Function? Location?
Definition
Matrix similar but less firm then the hyaline cartilage; thick collagen fibers predominate.
Function: Tensile strength with the ability to absorb compressive shock.
Location: Intervertebral discs; pubic symphysis; discs of knee and joint.
Term
Osseous (bone tissue)
Definition
High calcified matrix many collagen fibers; very well vascularized.
Function: supports and protects; provides levers for the muscles to act on; store minerals, calcium, and fat, stores marrow inside for blood cell formation.
