Term
These vessels carry blood Away from the heart.
Definition
Arteries
Term
What layer is the Intima
Definition
Innermost layer of arterie composed of simple squamous, elastic.
Term
What is the Media Layer
Definition
Middle layer composed of smooth muscle for vasoconstriction. This will regulate BP.
Term
What layer is the externa
Definition
outside layer, feeding the three layers with nutrients.
Term
What are the three types of Arteries,
Definition
Elastic, Muscular Distributive, and Arterioles
Term
What are the Elastic Arteries?
Definition
Pressure reservoirs, where pressure is the highest. These would be aorta, and ones in the neck.
Term
What are muscular distributive arteries?
Definition
Smaller diameter, further away from the heart. Bringing blood to the organs. More muscle contraction in them, dont wantt to overflow the organs.
Term
What are the Arterioles?
Definition
microscopic, lead into the capillaries. These make the precapillary sphincters, so these control when blood turns on and how hard and fast it flows.
Term
If tissue oxygen is low, what do the sphincters do?
Definition
The sphincters would open.
Term
What if you are working out, what do these spinchters do?
Definition
sphinchters will shut off flow to the stomach, and flow blood to muscles and heart.
Term
What is the BP of Aorta? Why?
Definition
120/80, goes a longer distance.
Term
What is the BP of the arterioles, why?
Definition
40mm, because as blood flows down the body, it gets less and less force.
Term
What is the BP of the capillaries and why?
Definition
20mm, since the blood is further down the body it is dropping in force again.
Term
What is the BP of the venous?
Definition
20mm because it is oxygen poor blood once again loosing more force.
Term
What is the BP of the right atrium?
Definition
0-2mm, by the time it reaches the heart, it has no more force.
Term
What are capillaries?
Definition
smallest blood vessel, circulation to tissues, have pores to allow diffusion of oxygen.
Term
What are continous capallaries, what are they found?
Definition
tight pored, found in lungs and brain.
Term
Fenestrated Capallaries?
Definition

larger pores, found in kidneys, in stomach, endocrine system.

Term
What are sinusoid capillaries?
Definition
larger pored, in the spleen, marrow
Term
What are metarterioles?
Definition
Connects arterioles to venules, by passes your capillary bed, so no diffusion.
Term
What are venules?
Definition
They are tiny vessels, that carry blood from the capillaries to veins. Remmber the Bp of these is 20. These are carrying blood to the heart.
Term
What are veins?
Definition
Thinner, but larger lumen, Bp is 10mm, bringing blood towards the heart, merging to the vena cavae. Valves assist in flow.
Term
Compare arteries and veins?
Definition
Arteries have thicker muscle, veins have valves to flow up wards, veins have the larger lumen, but thinner layers, veins flow towards the heart.
