-Palpate temporal and masseter muscles
-Ask patient to clench teeth
-Note muscle contraction strength
-Ask patient to move jaw side to side

Definition
-Pain sensation: Forehead, cheeks, jaw
-Test both sharp and dull
-Test any abnormality with a temperature sensation
-Test for light touch with wisp of cotton

-ask patient to look up and away from you
-approach from other side of patient, out of view
-touch the cornea with a fine wisp of cotton
-look for blinking eyes

-Tics or abnormal movements
-raise both eyebrows

Definition
-From behing look for atrophy in trapezius muscles
-Compare one side to the other
-Ask patient to shrug shoulders/note strength
-Ask patient to turn head on each side against hand

Cranial Nerve XII - Hypoglossal
Definition
-Listen to articulation of patients words
-Inspect resting tongue
-Look for atrophy and fasciculations
-Have patient stick out tongue and observe asymmetry, atrophy, or deviation from midline
-Have patient move tongue side to side/note symmetry of movement
-Have patient push against inside of each cheek and palpate externally for strength
