Term
V2
Definition
Speed maintained-0/+10 KIAS, in the event of an engine failure on takeoff, to an altitude of 800 feet AFL.
Term
V2 + 10 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed for a turn after takeoff. Use half bank if maneuvering at less than this airspeed.
Term
V2 +10 KIAS to 15 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed to select climb mode after takeoff
Term
V2 + 12 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed to retract flaps from 20¡ to 8¡
Term
V2 + 20 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed to retract the flaps from 8¡ to 1¡
Term
VFTO-15 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed to retract the flaps from 1¡ to 0¡ (2 engine or OEI)
Term
V2GA
Definition
Speed obtained from flip cards used as a reference point for speed determination during engine inoperative operation and ILS approaches. Accelerate to this speed, minimum, upon initiating an engine-out go-around.
Term
V2GA + 5 KIAS
Definition
Speed used as a minimum on a CAT 1 ILS with flaps at 30¡
Term
V2GA + 10 KIAS
Definition
turns at less than this speed require half bank selection.
Term
V2GA + 12 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed to retract flaps from 8¡ to 1¡ on a go-around (two engines or engine-out)
Term
V2GA + 10 KIAS to 15 KIAS
Definition
Minimum speed to select climb mode on a go-around, two engines or engine-out. It is also the initial speed to accelerate to on a two engine go-around.
Term
VAPP - VREF + 5 KIAS to 10 KIAS
Definition
used from 1000' AFL until reducing to cross the threshold at VREF
Term
VMM
Definition
Minimum slats/flaps maneuvering speed calculated by adding 5 KIAS to 10 KIAS to the applicable flap setting speed, as found in the flip cards. It is also the minimum speed in turbulence and with flaps 1¡, 8¡ and 20¡
Term
VFTO, Final Takeoff Speed
Definition
The speed used as the final climb speed on an engine failure on takeoff. Accelerate to this speed as the flaps are retracted and use this speed to climb to 1500 feet AFL.
Term
VREF, Landing Reference Speed
Definition
It is the speed of the airplane in the landing configuration, at the point where it descends through the 50 foot height in the determination of the landing distance. It is obtained from the flip cards by subtracting 5 KIAS from the speed given for VREF + 5 KIAS. If may not be less than 1.23 VSO. Touchdown should be at VREF to VREF - 5 KIAS within 500 feet to 3000 feet from the threshold but not more than a third of the way down the runway.
Term
Low Speed Awareness Cue
Definition
Green line at 1.26VS
Term
200 KIAS
Definition
Set speed bug to this before takeoff and upon reaching acceleration altitude. Set 250 KIAS when flaps up and positive speed trend indication. Set 290 KIAS at 10,000 feet.
