Term
ISO
Definition
In very basic terms, ISO is simply a camera setting that will brighten or darken a photo. As you increase your ISO number, your photos will grow progressively brighter. ISO generally starts at 100 and then doubles. So you'll have 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 6400 etc...
Term
Frame Rate FPS (video)
Definition
The number of frames (photos) captured per second.
Term
Shutter speed
Definition
Duration of time each frame is exposed to light.
- Typical shutter speeds:
1/1000s
1/500s
1/250s
1/60s
1/30s
1/15s
1/8s
1/4s
1/2s
1s
Term
shutter (photography)
Definition
A small device that allows light to pass for a determined period exposing film or a sensor and thus create an image.
Term
Basic Rule of Shuttle Speed vs Frame Rate (video) aka 180 rule.
Definition
Shutter speed is always double your frame rate. Ex: if you're shooting at 25fps your shutter speed should be 1/50s
Term
Frame Frequency
Definition
The rate at which an imaging device displays consecutive images called frames.
Term
Cinematic Frame Rate
Definition
24/25fps
Term
Slow motion minimum frame rate
Definition
60fps
Term
Aperture
Definition
The whole that allows light through to the senser. Denoted with an F or F Stop. Smaller F-Stop - larger hole, and vis-a-versa.
Term
Fixed Aperture
Definition
Where the f-stop is set at the factory and is not adjustable by the end user.
Term
Adjustable aperture
Definition
Where the f-stop is adjustable by the end user.
Term
Depth of field
Definition
the distance between the closest and farthest objects that appears sharp. Varies based on aperture.
Term
EV
Definition
A number that represents a combination of a camera's shutter speed and f-number, such that all combinations that yield the same exposure have the same EV value (fora ny fixed scene luminance)
Term
Image Resolution
Definition
The amount of detail an image holds. The amount of pixels an image contains.
Term
D-LogM
Definition
Designed to maximize the dynamic range of your video footage. Good for low light conditions and in backlighting scenarios. Much more data retention.
Term
Dynamic Range
Definition
The difference between the darkest and lightest tones in an image, generally pure black and pure white.
Term
Acutance
Definition
Subjective perception of sharpness that is related to the edge of contrast of an image. Important: an image with higher acutance appears sharper even though an increase in acutance does not increase real resolution.
Term
Contrast
Definition
The difference in luminance or color that makes an object distinguishable. In visual perception of the real world it is determined by the difference in the color and brightness of the object and other objects within the same field of view.
Term
Saturation
Definition
Defines a range from pure color (100%) to gray (0%) at a constant lightness level. A pure color is fully saturated.
Term
RTH
Definition
Return To Home. When a drone loses connection to the controller, flies too high, or too far you can set it to return to a specific location and land.
Term
RTH
Definition
Return To Home, a feature that allows the drone to automatically return to where it took off from if it loses connection to your controller.
Term
Rule Of Thirds
Definition
A principle of composition that states important points in an image should line up with the lines, and intersecting points in a grid on the page.
Term
The Tilt Reveal
Definition
A kind of establishing shot where you start with the camera pointing down and as the drone moves forward, you raise the camera toward the horizon thus revealing the place that will be the subject of the filming.
Term
Harmony
Definition
Combining all elements of a story and giving a final balanced product or high quality content.
Term
The Rule Of Nine
Definition
The principle that nine out of ten things you create are going to be terrible or less than good.
Term
Mood
Definition
Combination of what you see and hear, and how that makes you feel. Created with types of shots, grading, transitions, duration, soundtrack, music, sfx, dialot...etc
Term
Color Temperature
Definition
How warm or cold your scene looks.
Term
Golden Hour
Definition
The hour just before sunrise and sunset.
Term
Lumens
Definition
How bright a light bulb is.
