1. Conduct all affairs of USN including recruiting, organizing, supplying, equipping, training, mobilizing, and demobilizing

2.  Oversees construction, outfitting, and repair of naval ships, equipment, and facilities

3.  Formulates and implements policies and programs consistent with national security policies and objectives

Role of the Commandant Marine Corps

• Highest ranking Marine, member of Joint Chiefs
• Reports to SECNAV parallel to CNO
• Responsible for organization & readiness of USMC
• No operational command authority

• Support unified commands with mission to provide forces to COCOMs.

• Discipline, welfare, conduct, morale, & leadership of enlisted personnel
• Implement standards & policies on enlisted
• Comms with SNCOs through SNCO channels
• Guidance and counsel to SNCOs
• Reception & orientation of new personnel

• Advise on Navy policy for Navy enlisted matters.
• Advise CG, Surgeon, Chaplain, Dental Officer on morale, welfare, utilization, & training of Navy enlisted
• Accompanies CG, MEF Surgeon on staff visits
