He went to prison and there was a "furlough weekend" for the prisoners which was basically like a weekend off. However, Horton did not return. On his furlough weekend, he raped a woman. When it came time for the Dukakis and Bush election--the Bush campaign released several attack ads against Dukakis saying that Dukakis was the one responsible for the furlough weekend, which ultimately made him responsible for the rape. The creator for this ad was Lee Attwater, the head of the Bush campaign. |
