A normal developmental outgrowth of a bone arises from a separate ossification center and fuses to bone later in development. -Usually does not form direct articulation with another bone at a joint -Often forms important insertion point for a tendon or ligament -Occasionally can persist into adult life and (if injured) may become symptomatic -Often mistaken for fractures |
