Agent: CAV-1 virus
Species: dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes, bears
Distribution: worldwide
Clin. Signs: slight fever to death, anorexia, *conjunctivitis, eye & nose discharge, hyperemia & petechia of mucous membranes, spontaneous hematomas, *transient corneal opacity (Blue Eye)
Vx: CAV-2 MLV (not shed, no uveitis)
Vx Schedule: w/ Distemper (6-8; 10-12; 14-16; annual booster)

Species: Canine
Distribution: widespread, via aerosol
Clin. Signs: *fever, *anorexia, *cough, *vomiting, depression, eye & nose discharge, diarrhea, neuro signs, hyperkeratosis of pads and nose.
Vx: MLV-modified live vaccine
Vx Schedule: 6-8 wks; 10-12 wks; 14-16 wks; annual booster

Agent: *CPV-2 Virus
Distribution: In the US since 1978
Spread via *direct contact & *fomites.
*Symptoms: severe enteritis, vomiting, diarrhea w/ blood, anorexia, *dehydration, *fever, shock, DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation).
*Breed Disposition: Rotts, Pits, Dobies, GSDs
Vx: MLV or killed
Vx Schedule: 6-8 wks; 10-12 wks; 14-16 wks; annual booster

Definition
Agent: *Bordatella bronchiseptica
Species: many
Distribution: worldwide, often commensal
Clin. Signs: *honking cough
Vx: *Live, avirulent (preferred), *killed bacterin
Vx Schedule: q 6 mo, starting at least 14 days before exposure

Symptoms: fever, vasculitis, thrombocytopenia, dehydration, vomiting, oral ulcers
Vx: inactivated bacterins
Vx Schedule: 10-12 wks; 14-16 wks; annual booster (note only 2 initial Vx)

LYME DISEASE
Definition
*Agent: Borrelia burgdorferi
Species: many, esp. dogs and humans
Distribution: particularly Eastern US. In MN, along Miss., St. Croix, & Mn Rivers.
Symptoms: *lameness, *lethargy, *fever, lymphadenopathy
Vx: whole killed bacterin (preferred), or outer surface proteins of spirochetes
Vx Schedule: 10-12 wks; 14-16 wks; annual booster (note only two initial Vx)

Agent: virus transmitted through saliva
Species: all mammals, except rodents and lagomorphs
Distribution: worldwide. Some islands are rabies-free (NZ, UK, Hawaii)
Symptoms: 2 forms: furious & dumb
Classic signs include: personality change, paralysis
Vx: only killed virus available in US
Vx Schedule: depends on the mfg. Anywhere from 12 wks to 6 months initially, then q 1-3 years.

Clin. Signs: conjunctivitis, rhinitis, salivation, lacrimation, oral ulcers
Pathophysiology: *intranuclear inclusion bodies
Vx: MLV (SQ or subconjunctivally), killed
Vx Schedule: 8-10 wks; 12-14 wks; annual booster

Clin. Signs: similar to herpes virus, *oral ulceration is primary
Vx: combined w/ FVR

Species: cats, a few wild felids

Clin. Signs: *secondary infection, neoplasia
Pathophysiology: immunosuppressive and oncogenic virus
Vx: *whole killed, *virus subunit, *genetically engineered MLV
Vx Schedule: *preferably only to FELV tested negative cats

Clin. Signs: *rhinitis, *sinusitis, pharyngitis
Vx: reduces clinical signs, but does not prevent disease
Vx Schedule: combo w/ FVR & Calicivirus
