Descriptive Terms: The Kano school represents the opposite pole of Muromachi style from splashed ink painting. In this scroll depicting a Zen patriarch experiencing enlightenment, Motonobu used bold outlines to define the forms.

Descriptive Terms: Tohaku used wet brush strokes to paint a grove of great pines shrouded in mist. In Zen terms, the six panel screen suggest the illusory nature of mundane reality while evoking a calm, meditative mood.
