“Lord, bless this food to the nourishment or our bodies and Kappa Alpha to thy service. Amen.”
The prayer is said before all meals except breakfast. And from what I understand, we do not sit or eat until the prayer is said. |

Proper Phone and Message Ettiquite |

Begin emails with a proper subject and make sure to include all relevant persons in the TO: and CC: boxes. -A proper subject is concise, but still gives a good idea as to what the email is about. Think of it as the title of a paper. -TO: is for primary recipients – who you are actually sending information to and/or requesting a Ex: You have a question for your professor about a group project. Include him/her in the TO: box.
-CC: is for all relevant people mentioned in an email or the subject matter pertains to them.
Ex: Your teammates in the group project mentioned above would be included in the CC: box. Begin with the proper heading. -Emails to the BAofKA list-serve should begin with “Gentlemen,” or “Brothers,” -Emails to teachers should begin with “Dr. (Last Name)” or “Professor (Last Name)” depending on the teacher’s qualifications. Consult your class syllabus for teacher’s qualifications. |

Note: It is acceptable to address Graduate Student Teaching Assistants by their first name in email correspondence. Keep email body length to a minimum. -You can expect a quicker response to emails that only convey necessary information that is relevant to the response you are seeking. Fewer and simpler words and sentences are better than uncommon words and complex sentence structures. -If you must convey a large amount of information, or have many questions, use bullet points and neat formatting to clean up the appearance of the email. End with the proper closing and signature. Emails to the BAofKA list-serves should end with “Fraternally,” -Emails to teachers, or other professional contacts should end with “Best Regards,” or just simply “Regards,” -Email signatures should summarize who you are and your relevant positions. List your name, major and class, university, and any relevant positions you are involved with.
Example: John Doe Junior – Chemical Engineering Missouri S&T – Class of 2015 II – Vice President Beta Alpha Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order Secretary Omega Chi Epsilon Chemical Engineering Honor’s Society
Phones – There is nothing in The Page or The Varlet that says anything specific about proper phone use, so just use common sense with it. Here are a few ideas I have, feel free to add ideas to the groupme. No phone use of any kind during meals or class. During social gatherings, either with or without fellow KA’s, don’t rely on your phone for entertainment. Only text if calling is inconvenient. For example, you should really only text if you are sending a mass message, trying to get small amounts of information, or if whoever you called did not answer. For longer conversations, either pick up the phone or meet face to face.
Don’t abuse the groupme. It is to be used as a tool, not a joke. |
