where does a map get its name and where is the "sheet name" located?
Definition
a map is named after the most prominent cultural or geographical feature. Whenever possible, the name of the largest city on the map is used. The sheet name is found in bold print at the cente rof the top and in the lower left aresa of the map margin.

a. black- indicates cultural (man-made) features other then roads

b. blue- identifies hydrography or water features such as lakes, swamps, rivers and drainage.

c. brown- identifies all relief features and elevation, such as contoiurs on older edition maps, and cultivated land on red-light readable maps.

d. green- identifies vegetationwith military signifigance, such as woods, orchards, and vineyards.

e. red- classifies cultural features, such as populated areas, main roads, and boundaries, on older maps.

f. red brown- the colors red and brown are combined to identify cultural features, all reliefe features, non-surveyed spot elevations, and elevation such as contour lines on red-light readable maps.

b. magnetic north- the direction to the north magnetic pole, as indicated by the north seeking needle of a magnetic instrument.

 

c. Grid north- the north that is established by using the vertical grid lines on the map. Grid North is usually symbolized by the letters GN or the letter y at the apex.
