WEc1.1 -Water Efficient Landscaping- Intention and Implementation |
|
Definition
Intention - Limit or eliminate potable water use for landscape irrigation Implementation - Reduce potable water use for irrigation by at least 50% (calculated from a "mid-summer baseline case" by using the following methods: a)Use the Species factor: Consider the size, gorwth rate, adaptability, tecture, color and disversification of plant life on the site b) Use a high efficiency micro-irrigation system: For example drip-irrigation, micro-misters, subsurface irrigation c) Instead of using potable water use: captured rainwater, recycled wastewater, treated water (must be conveyed by a public agency as being specifically treated for non-potable uses) |

WEc1.2 -Water Efficient Landscaping- Intention and Implementation |
|
Definition
Intention - Limit or eliminate potable water use for landscape irrigation Implementation - Option 1: DO NOT use any potable water Option 2: DO NOT use any irrigation system Additional Notes: 1) for landscaping use the following methods: captured rainwater, recycled wastewater, recycled graywater, treated water 2) Minimize site area by: Limiting turf areas, use landscaping that doesnt require permaneny irrigation (temp. irrigation is okay to establish plants if it is removed after one year), mulching and mowing |

|
Definition
Intention - Reduce wastewater generation, reduce potable water demand, Increase the recharge of local aquifers Implementation - Option 1: Reduce potable water demand by 50%: 1)use water conserving fixtures 2) reuse nonpotable water for flushing 3) reuse on-site treated water Option 2: Treat and reuse 50% of wastewater on-site (to tertiary standards): 1) treated water must be treated by biological systems, constructed wetlands, and/or high efficiency filtration systems Additional Notes: For calculations consider: 1)occupants are students, customers, visitors, and FTE 2) male to female water usage ratio (per day in commercial/institutional projects only) is 1:1, Male water closet = 1 and urinal = 2 , Female water closet =3 3) Calcualtions based on usage rate, occupancy, and number of workdays |

WEc3.1 -Water Use Reduction- Intention and Implementation |
|
Definition
Intention = Maximize water efficiency to reduce the burden on municipal water supplies and wastewater systems. Implementation = a) Use 20% less water than building baseline case (dont include irrigation) b) comply with egergy policy act of 1992 for fixture performance requirements c) Calculations should only include the following fixtures: water closets, urinals, lavatory faucets, showers, kitchen sinks d) use high-efficiency fixtures with low or no flow rates e) consider reusing stormwater and graywater for non-potable uses f) for calculations, consider: 1)number of occupants, flow rate of fixtures vs. baseline case 2) also average daily usage - 1 person = 5 uses per day (includes flow and flush fixtures) |
