The indirect object indicates to whom or for whom an action is done.

Examples:

Abby: My mom bought this dress for whom?

Betty: She bought this dress for you.

Abby: Yes, she bought me this dress.

Indirect Object Pronouns

me: to/for me

te: to/for you

le: to/for him, her, you (Ud.)

nos: to/for us

les: to/for them, you all (Uds.)

Like direct object pronouns, indirect object pronouns precede the verb and can also be attached to infinitives and present participles (-ando, -iendo)

Examples:

Do you want to give me the money?

¿Me quieres dar el dinero?

¿Quieres darme el dinero?

Are you going to give me the money?

¿Me vas a dar el dinero?

¿Vas a darme el dinero?

Are you giving me the money?

¿Me estás dando el dinero?

¿Estás dándome el dinero?

Manolo can buy you the hat at the store.

Manolo te puede comprar la gorra en la tienda.

Manolo puede comprarte la gorra en la tienda.

Her brother is going to give her a t-shirt.

Su hermano le va a regalar una camiseta.

Su hermano va a regalarle una camiseta.

To clarify or emphasize the indirect object, a prepositional phrase (a + prepositional pronoun) can be added, as in the following sentences.  Clarification of le and les is especially important since they can refer to different people (him, her, you, them, you all).

Examples:

I'm loaning him my coat but I'm not loaning her anything. (clarification)

Le presto el abrigo a él pero no le presto nada a ella.

Are you asking me? (emphasis)

encantar: to love; delight

fascinar: to fascinate

hacer falta: to need; to be lacking

importar: to matter; to be important

molestar: to bother
