·Lay out your baby's towel prior to the bath, so you don't have to struggle with it while handling your squirming and slippery baby. ·Fill the baby's tub with only 2 to 3 inches of water initially. This is just enough water to clean your baby without overwhelming them. ·Try to keep the babies water warm but not too hot. A good range is between 85-90 degrees Fahrenheit. ·Avoid undressing your baby until you are ready to actually bathe them, so they don't become unnecessarily chilled. ·Wash your baby from top to bottom and front to back with a soapy cloth. Be sure to check behind the ears (where spit up milk likes to collect) and be sure to clean the genital area thoroughly. ·Be sure to rinse your baby with a couple of cupfuls of water before removing them from the tub. Be sure your baby's genital area is thoroughly dry before placing a diaper on him/her, to help prevent diaper rash. |

-Offer your breast or the bottle every two to three hours at first or as your baby seems hungry. Until your baby reaches about 10 pounds, she'll probably take one to three ounces per feeding. Don't force more than she seems ready to eat. -Use before the expiration date on the label -Use refrigerated, opened, ready-to-feed and prepared formula within 48 hours. -Don't leave bottles of formula out of the refrigerator for more than two hours. -Throw away the formula left in the bottle after a feeding, since germs from baby's saliva will multiply in the warm formula. -Refrigerate any formula saved from one day to the next. -Be very careful if you are using a microwave oven to warm formula. It's better not to microwave. Because of uneven heating, hot spots develop. If you do use the microwave, shake the bottle well before testing the temperature on your wrist. -Avoid bottle propping, and don't let a baby fall asleep holding his own bottle. |
