A laboratory procedure in which sperm are placed with an unfertilized egg in a Petri dish to achieve fertilization. The embryo is then transferred into the uterus to begin a pregnancy or cryopreserved (frozen) for future use. After the embryos are fertilized in vitro, they are graded for three days. The embryo must have divided into a sufficient amount of cells in order for it to be implanted in the woman's uterus. |
