To recognize medical conditions that are associated with psychological symptoms

When a mental symptom is thought to be a direct physiological consequence of GMC where which DSM Axis is it listed on?
 Definition

It should be listed on Axis 1 along with the related GMC.

For example:  Axis 1 mood disorder due to hypothyroidism, then in Axis III hypothroidism will also be listed.

When a mental disorder occurs in addition to a GMC, but the mental disorder is not thought to have any physiological cause, the  primary mental disorder is listed in Axis 1 as:

Example:  Major Depressive Disorder, and the co occurring medical condition is listed in Axis III, for example Osteoarthritis
