* 1840: Born in Paris, son of a grocer
* 1845: Family moves to Le Havre, Normandy
* 1855-59: Establishes local fame by drawing caricatures, studies painting with local artists
* 1859-72: Frequent trips to Paris where he befriends other young painters, the future “Impressionists”
* 1872: Settles in Argenteuil, a suburban town near Paris
* 1874: Monet and his friends exhibit their works in an alternative salon, the Impressionist movement is born
* 1883: Moves to Giverny, a small rural village 52 miles northwest of Paris
* 1890s: Starts painting his series
* 1926: Dies in Giverny |
