Writing inequalities Notes

Inequalities are similar to equations,but instead of an equal sign, they have one of the following:

< means less than

> means greater than

≤ means less than or equal to

≥ means greater than or equal to

Inequality Key words:

• at - means greater than or equal to
• at most - means less than or equal to
• no more than - means less than or equal to

Key words continued:

• more than - means greater than
• less than means less than
• inclusive - means "make the or equal to line"

The graph of an inequality shows all the solutions of the inequality on a number line. 

An open circle is used when a number is not a solution.

A closed circle is used when a number is a solution. 

An arrow to the left or right shows that the graph continues in that direction.
