Definition

Indications: Poisoning, overdose.

Admin Route: PO, NG tube

Adult Dose: 1gm/kg mixed with water.

Pedicatric dose: 1gm/kg mixed with water.

Contraindications: Should not be given with ipecac, not be given in cyanide poisoning.

No side effects.

Special notes: PO, NG in a slurry mixed with water/premixed.

Children's Chewable Aspirin 

Definition

Indications: Myocardial infarction, chest pain, suspicious of cardiac origin

Admin route: Chew; PO

Adult dose 162-324mg 

Pediatic dose not approved

Contraindications: Active ulcer, hypersensitivity to aspirin

Side effects: Allergic reaction; N/V; indigestion; tinnitus

Special notes: A cost efficient medication that can be fiven within minutes of arrival to the acute MI patient and may reduce overall mortality.

Definition

Indications: PSVT, SVT

Admin. route: Rapid IV, IO

Adult dose: 6mg, 12mg

Pediatric dose: 0.1 mg/kg - Max initial dose of 6mg

Contradictions: 2nd and 3rd degree heart block

Side effects: Short-lasting first, second or third degree AV block, transient asystole

Special Notes: Onset is less than 1 minute - adverse experiences are predicatable, short lived and easily tolerated.

Definition

Indication: Acute Bronchospasm

Admin Route: Hand held nebulizer or nebulizer Mask or via CPAP or ETT connection

Adult Dose: 2.5 mg 

Pediatric Dose: 2.5 mg

Contraindications: Hyperdensitivity to any of the contents of the inhalation solution 

Side Effects: Tremor; dizziness; nervousness; headache; nausea; tachycardia; bronchospasm

Special notes: Part of Duoneb - a premized solution of 0.5 mg ipratropium bromide and 3 mg of albuterol sulfate

Cordarone 

Definition

Indications: Shock resistant V-Fib; Pulseless V-tach, unstable V-tach

Admin route: Arrest: 300mg/150 mg; Unstable: 150mg over 10 minutes

Pediatric dose: Arrest: 5mg/kg; Unstanle 5mg/kg over 20-60 minutes

Contraindications: Cardiogenic shock; marked sinus bradycardia 2nd and 3rd degree heart block, do not administer with procainamide

Side effects: Hypotension, bradycardia, AV block, asystole and PEA

Special notes: Maximum dose 2.2 grams/24 hours; Infusion is mized 900 mg/500mL

Definition

Indications: Sinus bradycardia when accompianed by hypotension, 2nd and 3rd degree heart block, oraganophosphate poisoning 

Admin route: IV, IO, ET, IM

Adult dose: Cardiac: 0.5mg Organophosphate: 1-2 mg

Pediatric dose: Bradycardia: 0.02 mg/kg Minimum: 0.1 mg; Organo poisoning: 0.05 - 0.1 mg/kg; Adolescents: 2mg

Contraindications: Tachycardia; Glaucoma; Atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter with rapid ventricular response 

Side effects: Tachycardia; dry mouth; thirst; flushing of skin; blurred vision; headache; papillary dilatation; urine retention
