Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)
* 1881: Born in Malaga, Spain, son of an academic painter
* 1895: Family moves to Barcelona, Picasso enters the local academy of painting
* 1897-99: Moves to Madrid to enroll in the Royal Academy of San Fernando
* 1900: Moves to Paris, the center of the Avant-Garde
* 1901-04: “Blue Period”
* 1905-06: “Rose Period”
* 1909-12: Develops “Analytical Cubism” with friend and fellow artist Georges Braque
* 1912-1914: Picasso and Braque develop “Synthetic Cubism”, using collages (paste-ups)
* 1946: Moves to Southern France, where he continued working until his death in 1973 |
