Previous CV counselling experience:
1. At RPS, the general manager and I agreed to sit in his office one hour per fortnight to discuss his relationship conflicts and anxieties.
2. A tradesman had got into a violent conflict with another employee on a previous site. After talking with this man, I discovered that he had previously been imprisoned and charged with domestic violence and assault. Subsequently, we agreed to meet once a week for two months to discuss these issues. We focused on reframing his justification for violent behaviour and challenging his current beliefs in a supportive framework.
3. Mykra; with a colleague once a week about his depressive sentiments and financial insecurities.
4. Mykra; , I occasionally spent time onsite with a group of three tradesmen discussing their difficulties relating to anger and anxiety with their spouses and family life.
5. Other people at Mykra would come into my office or ask to go for a walk for a chat any frustrations during work, which mostly extended into their family life as well |

B. RPS a tradesman onsite -
1. What happened? – a. He was reported being very aggressive onsite with other workers, yelling, pushing things around. The GM asked me to have a chat with him. At that point I was a PM.
2. What we did: We met once a week for two months. Would meet him onsite and go for a coffee or just a walk.
3. How I helped: a. Identify his feelings: What emotions did he feel while it occurred (emotionally physically)? b. Could he recognise these feelings while they were occurring or only after? c. Asked if he felt the aggressive behaviour was justified? He said no, but couldn’t help it, he felt it was out of his control. d. Some exercises to help him better identify when he was getting angry and how to help reduce his anger in the short term. Some breathing exercises, to go for a short walk, make a tea or coffee, call a friend. e. We discussed that the violent behaviour was a choice and could be changed. f. Reframe his life story to suggest that, he wasn’t an angry person, but he was a person that could feel angry during stressful situations. g. Then we tried to find out what are some of the route traumas leading to his behaviour. 1. He was devastated when his partner left and hasn’t dealt with the pain. 2. His dad acted very aggressively in the house when he was younger.

1. What happened? - Began to know each other onsite. They actually worked for a painting contractor we used frequently. One day I saw one person angry, we chatted about his family life, and soon I was talking to 2 of his other colleagues together. More casually
2. What we did: Chatted every now and then on different sites when I would go down for meetings or inspections
3. How I helped: a. Discussed where the family anger was coming from b. if they justified their anger. c. how to see the anger as coming from a fear of losing power and control, related to their own vulnerabilities d. To acknowlege this and relaise that your frustrations and anger can be minimised, that its a choice
4. Extra help: a. told them about meditation b. identifying their anger early and how to relax before they got to angry. |
