Term
List the steps of the scientific method in order and give their definition |
Definition
1.) problem/question- develope a question or problem that can be solved. 2.) observation/research- make observations and research your topic of interest. 3.) Formulate a hypothesis- predict a possible answer to the problem or question. 4.) experiment- develop and follow a procedure. 5.) Collect and analyze results- modify the procedure, confirm the results. 6.) conclusion- include a statement that accepts or rejects the hypothesis |

Term
what is a control? what is a variable? |
Definition
The control variable is something that is constant and unchanged in an experiment.
variable is something that changes in an experiment |

Term
what is water displacement? |
Definition
Water displacement is a method of measuring an object's volume. Water displacement demonstrates the idea that matter has volume |
Term
what is density? how do you figure out density? |
Definition
Density is how much mass a material has for a given volume. *mass divided by volume |
Term
define velocity? how is it different than speed? |
Definition
The speed of something in a given direction. Speed is the rate of motion, but does not contain an element of direction. |
Term
what does constant velocity mean? |
Definition
Neither speed nor direction of motion changes. |
Term
what are displacement vectors? |
Definition

Term
define terminal velocity? |
Definition
Terminal velocity is a state where the force of drag and the force of gravity acting on an object are equal. |
Term
define acceleration (positive and negative) |
Definition
an object whose speed increases as it moves away from its orginial starting position. Acceleration in a direction opposite to the velocity, or in the direction of the negative axis of a coordinate system. |

what are newton's three laws? examples. |
Definition
first-An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. second- Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object). third- For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.
