Expressing Possession:  Possessive Adjectives

Possession can be indicated by the following possessive adjectives.  The particular adjective you choose depends on the owner, but the adjective itself, like other Spanish adjectives, agrees in number and gender with teh word it describes:  that is, with the object owned, not the owner

mi (mis)- my

tu  (tus)- your

su  (sus) - your/his/her

nuestro/a (nuestros/as) - our

vuestro/a (vuestros/as) -your

su  (sus) - your, their

• Mi falda es vieja, pero mis zapatos son nuevos
• Luis no tiene sus libros

• ¿Es ésta tu blusa? No, no es mía; es tuya - Is this one your blouse? No, it's not mine; it's yours
• ¿Son de Alfredo estos zapatos? Sí, son suyos - Are these shoes Afredo's? Yes, they are his.
• Es de Carmen este libro? No, no es suyo; es mío - Is this book Carment's?  No, it's not hers; it's mine
• Son de ustedes estos cuadernos? Sí, son nuestros - do these notebooks belong to you (all)?  Yes, they are ours.
