The medullary cavity is the central cavity of bone shafts where yellow marrow (adipose tissue) is stored. Located in the main shaft of the bone (diaphysis), the medullary cavity has walls composed of compact bone and is lined with a thin, vascular membrane (endosteum).

Periosteum is a membrane that lines the outer surface of all bones,[1] except at the joints of long bones.[2] Endosteum lines the inner surface of all bones.

Definition
The axial skeleton consists of the 80 bones in the head and trunk of the human body. It is composed of five parts; the human skull, the ossicles of the inner ear, the hyoid bone of the throat, the chest, and the vertebral column. The axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton together form the complete skeleton.
