  • Tragic hero
Definition

Tragedy is what depicts the downfall of a noble hero , it is usually through a shroud of a major fault. Their goals usually lead to their demise. According to Aristotle  the tragic hero should have a flaw. The hero need not die at the end, but he must undergo a change. The tragic hero may achieve some revelation. Aristotle quite nicely terms this sort of recognition "a change from ignorance to awareness of a bond of love or hate."

Differences between the tragic hero and the Phantom
Definition

Tragic heros are born of noble birth. Have a single flaw that leads to their fall. They start on a high pedastal.

They usually follow moral code according to their beliefs. They achieve some type of epiphany and the story of the hero creates catharsis between the audience.

The phantom was born poor and was moved to a circus.

His single flaw was his his yearning for love and his disability to follow societal moral codes.

The only type of epiphany he achieved was he realized he could never have Christine. His story creates catharsis however, he was not a hero and was a villain because of his murders he comitted. He had no return home and no redemption with his father or parents at all. He was alone and left alone.
