- The student must complete the work by the end of the next regular quarter (they do not need to re-enroll in the course)

- The professor must file a UCLA Report of Academic Revision form before the end of the next quarter. The final grade will be averaged into the cumulative GPA, NOT any one quarter's GPA

- If a student is doing poorly in a course they can switch the grading basis before the end of 6th week

- Students feel relief from the pressure of competing for a grade

Term
What are disadvantages of taking courses P/NP?
Definition
- If a student would have received an A in a course they only receive a P and get no grade points

- Some law schools convert NP to F, but not P to C for GPA calculations

- If a student takes two P/NP courses in a 12 unit quarter they put all of their GPA on one course

- If a student receives a NP in a GE course they receive no credit whereas anything above an F would at least grant GE credit

- Passing a major course with P is a problem because most departments will not accept this grade for major coursework
