- break in the skin for virus to enter
- Immune system vulnerable to virus

- Fingers, hands, knees, can be found on face
- Can be found under nail beds. Looks like cauliflower, black dots inside

Definition
Verruca plana - smoother with flat tops. Common on face and in clusters

Definition
Verruca Plantaris - Common on soles of feet on weight baring areas. Very painful

Definition
A rash caused by poxvirus - looks like warts. Contagious, must be treated w/ liquid nitrogen

- Avoid walking barefoot, change shoes
- Do not poke or cut
- Wash hands after touching

How is salicylic acid used for warts?
Definition
- 17-40%. Only for common and plantar warts

How is cryotherapy used for warts?
Definition
Causes irritation leading to an immune response
Freeze off - OTC. May repeat after 10 days. Max of 3 treatments

How is duct tape used for warts?
Definition
Occlusion leads to an immune response - apply and leave on for 6 days. Remove soak and use pumice. Repeat for up to 2 months.

- Warts on face, nails, anus, genitals
- Extensive on one site
- painful plantar warts
- Contraindication to foot care
- Physical/mental impairment
- Immunosuppressives

What are medication options for warts?
Definition
- Imiquimod/Aldara - immune response modifier. For genital, common, flat warts. Leave on for 6-10 hours!
- Cantharidin - causes skin to blister, very painful. For common or molluscum. Avoid in diabetics
- Podophyllum/Podofin - cytotoxic. Only side effects when drunk
